The storm before the calm

It's hard to believe that Travers is over and when that happens it seems like we're almost at the end of racing. I'm writing this before Irene hits and I know the track is closed tomorrow, but yesterday was such a beautiful day it is difficult to believe we are going to be innudated with rain tomorrow.
I went out to buy an already cooked roast chicken and I made a macaroni salad. That way if we lose power we can still eat the chicken cold and a refrigerator stays cold at least 24 hours so the macaroni salad won't give us the stomach bug. I even made a banana cream pie. Of course, it is better if it stays cold.
I just feel sorry for the people who are actually in the eye of the storm and if the weathermen are right it will be over in one day and the rest of the week will be calm and nice.
So get your flashlights ready in case. Make plenty of ice cubes and sit back, shut your eyes and listen to the winds and rain hitting the roof. Maybe these storms come once in awhile to wake us up to something other than TV watching.
Of course, you still have you IPods etc. Maybe you can let me know what's going on since I don't have one. But most likely my computer will be down if there is no power.
I know I will survive until Monday, I hope.

Hand-held devices don't give hugs like I do

I know I'm getting older, but does everyone have to be on their Ipods, Iphones etc. all the time. I'm just not into it.
I like to sit down and have a normal conversation with someone without their attention being into their hand-held devices.
I recently had family members come for a vist. It was great. However, most of the time - not all of the time - their minds were on what was on their devices. They were texting other family members or playing games. And when I questioned it, I was told this is the new era. I know they're right, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
Everyone talks about not having enough money these days, but there is always enough money for the new technology. Maybe I'm the one that is out-of-it.
But, while I'm sitting around I'll read my book or newspaper and when someone says something I'll stop and give my full attention to the person that says something.
And, in the meantime, folks go ahead and text, play games and give your attention to you hand-held devices. But I hope they learn how to give you hugs like I do.
