It's cookie baking time

This time of year I get a yearning to bake cookies. It's crazy really because the only ones living in my house are myself and my husband. But I also like to give them away.
When my four children - all adults, now - were living at home cookie baking was plentiful. But now only one of the four lives close by. I used to send boxes to each one of them and their families, but no more. The last time I was cured.
My granddaughter had requested her favorites while she was in college. Of course, any loving grandmother would be flattered. I was living in Florida for the winter so I got myself busy in the kitchen making her her favorite cookies. Unfortunately, I don't even remember what kinds they were.
With my tin in hand I went to the UPS down the road from me. By the time the clerk wrapped them, put them in a container and tightly added tape no one could get into the box, I thought. All I cared about was that she got them.
This was at least five years ago or more. She is now out of college and a teacher in Virginia. Well, she got the cookies and was very happy about them. What she didn't know it cost me $25 to send them. They probably would be double that price now. My husband's reaction was "next time send her the $25 and let her buy her own cookies." He's right, but it just isn't the same.
So now I just keep baking cookies - eating more than I should - and wish that the good old days were here again.
Oh, wait I got to go my oven timer just rang. Another batch of chocolate chip cookies with nuts are done. At least my husband is happy.
To everyone have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and if you feel like baking cookies go ahead someone is always around to taste them.
