Illness often strikes unexpectedly

No matter how old one of your children gets their mother still worries about them.
My daughter who lives in Virginia is so sick right now with an eye, ear and sinus infection and here I am miles and miles away. And I feel helpless because I can't be there for her.
Her daughter also lives in Va., but miles away and is a teacher. Her son lives in Canton, Ga., which is much further away. So there she is all alone. Thankfully she managed to drive herself to the doctor's and is now taking her meds and hopefully on the mend.
She's not a little girl anymore. She is my first born and I'm 80 so that tells you something. Why is it that when you're sick or one of your children is sick it seems there should be a way of shaking a magic wand to make things better?
In the meantime I will just keep in touch with her via email, phone or whatever is necessary to hopefully make her better.
She is hoping that this isn't a sign of things to come in 2013. As I know and just about anyone else knows we don't know what will happen in our lives. But we do know we have no control over getting an unexpected illness.
In the meantime, I will just be a mother who tries to help from afar. And to let her know I'm there for her no matter what.
